About This Recipe
It’s no secret my love of Chick-fil-A. It’s always my favorite fast food to run through when I need something quick, convenient, and so yummy. But as much as I love grabbing something from the drive-thru, it can add up quick!
That’s why I love finding healthy at-home ways to make my favorites. Not only is it way more cost-effective but you can customize the recipe to make it fit your tastes and dietary preferences so much easier.
This Egg White Grill is the perfect replica of my favorite breakfast option. It’s made with tender, juicy chicken, slice of cheese, and egg whites on a toasted multigrain english muffin.
Take it to the next level by adding some strawberry jam (hello salty + sweet combo, my favorite!) or really elevate it with some Chick-fil-A Honey Roasted BBQ.

Why You’ll Love This Egg White Grill
- The best on-the-go breakfast!
- Great for meal prepping and enjoying all week.
- Much more cost effective than fast food breakfast
- Protein packed + balanced macros! A breakfast option that leaves you feeling full and satisfied.
- Easily customizable to your taste or dietary preferences.
- Chicken – I used thin sliced chicken breasts to make these quicker but you can use regular chicken breasts and slice them yourself (anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick should be good!) Chicken tenderloins would also work!
- Pickle juice – the pickle juice acts as a brine for the chicken, keeping it super tender and flavorful. I love using the pickle juice from some good quality bread and butter pickles.
- Spices: brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, and salt
- Egg whites – I would recommend using egg whites from whole eggs for this recipe. I tested a batch using egg whites from a carton and when reheated, they got a little rubbery.
- English muffins – I used Thomas’ Light Multigrain English Muffins for this recipe but any type or brand of english muffin works (you can use regular, Dave’s Killer, gluten-free, etc).
- American cheese
- Different bread: instead of an english muffin you could do a biscuit or bagel
- Different protein: if chicken for breakfast isn’t your thing, sub for sausage, ham or bacon.
- Whole egg: you can also use a whole egg in place of the egg whites if you prefer.
- Cheese: I used American cheese to make these most similar to Chick-fil-A’s version, but you can sub for any cheese you prefer – provolone, cheddar, pepper jack, etc.
- Add bacon: I love adding bacon to my Egg White Grill at Chick-fil-A so why not add some here too!
- Sauce: add your favorite jam or jelly (strawberry and grape jam are delicious!) or a savory sauce like Chick-fil-A honey roasted bbq sauce, ketchup, mustard, etc.
How To Make
The full printable recipe is below, but let me walk you through the process so you know what to expect when you’re making it!
1. Add chicken to a large bowl or ziplock bag with the pickle juice, brown sugar and black pepper. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes (up to 24 hours).
2. Remove chicken from the brine and lightly pat dry with a paper towel. Sprinkle all over with the salt and paprika.
3. Grease a grill or grill pan and set to medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook covered for 1-2 minutes each side, or until no longer pink.
4. Cut English muffins in half. Place grilled chicken fillet on top of one half.
5. Grease a small skillet and set to medium heat Add one large egg white (can use full egg too). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes or until done.
6. Then fold egg white into a square and place on top of the grilled chicken fillet. Repeat for all the egg whites.
7. Place the cheese slice on top of egg white and then the other half of the english muffin.
8. Wrap in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and keep stored in the fridge for 5 days. Serve with sauces of choice if desired and enjoy!
To refrigerate: wrap in aluminum foil or plastic wrap and keep stored in the fridge for 5 days.
To freeze: wrap the sandwiches individually in wax paper, parchment paper or aluminum foil before adding to the ziploc bag. Store in a freezer-safe ziploc bag and freeze for 2-3 months.
How to reheat from frozen: For best results, thaw in the refrigerator the night before.
If you forget to take one out of the freezer, you can still enjoy. Just wrap the sandwich in a paper towel and place in the microwave with a cup of water (this helps prevent the bread from getting tough). Microwave for a minute on defrost setting or 50% power.
After the egg white grill is warmed through the center we can toast it up some in the air fryer which really helps bring this sandwich to life!
Reheating Tips
If frozen, thaw in the fridge the night before. From there I recommend heating the sandwich in the microwave first (to warm throughout) then toasting the english muffin up a little. It gives the sandwich more dimension and tastes better this way!
Step 1: Microwave. Wrap the sandwich in paper towel and microwave for 45-60 seconds.
Step 2: Operation toasted. The microwave does a great job warming the sandwich throughout. But after reheating, the english muffin does get more flimsy. So to toast it up on the outside, air fry for 2-3 minutes on 375F. Or broil for 1-2 minutes on high!
