Why You’ll Love These Hawaiian Roll Cheeseburger Sliders
- These mini cheeseburgers are great for feeding a hungry crowd! Great for game day, birthday parties, cookouts or even busy weeknights!
- Way easier than flipping a ton of burgers on the grill!
- Lower in fat than traditional sliders!
- The perfect appetizer, snack or dinner on busy school nights!
- A great make ahead meal – also reheat really well!
- Ground beef – I used 93/7 lean ground beef
- Worcestershire sauce
- Garlic powder
- Yellow onion
- Sliced American cheese
- Hawaiian sweet rolls – I love using Hawaiian sweet rolls for this recipe. I think the sweetness of the rolls goes perfectly with the savory flavor of the burger. However, you can use any type of small dinner roll you prefer here!
- Butter
- Sesame seeds
- Use leaner ground beef! Using 96/4 ground beef instead of 93/7 brings the fat down by 2g per slider (carbs and protein stay the same).
- Bacon sliders! Add bacon to your onions or layer bacon on top of cheese for yummy bacon cheeseburger sliders.
- Different cheese! Sub the American cheese for cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese, colby jack, etc.
- Add burger toppings! Add your favorite burger toppings like lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, pickles, jalapenos, etc.
How To Make
The full printable recipe is below, but let me walk you through the process so you know what to expect when you’re making it!
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the beef, worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
2. Press down into an even flat layer in a greased 9×13-inch dish.
3. Bake for 20 minutes. When done, drain the liquid and set the cooked beef aside.
4. Meanwhile, make the caramelized onions. Spray a medium-sized skillet with cooking spray and set to medium heat. Add the onions; spray the tops of the onions with cooking spray and sprinkle with salt.
5. Cook, stirring frequently, until starting to brown. Add a tablespoon of water and stir to deglaze the pan and continue cooking. Repeat this step 1-2 times until onions are browned and cooked to liking.
6. Slice the rolls in half horizontally. Place the bottom half in the same baking dish (wipe down with a paper towel and spray with cooking spray first). Place the cooked beef on top of the bottom rolls then top with the caramelized onions and cheese, and then the top rolls.
7. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top.
8. Bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and buns are toasted to liking. Slice into 12 individual sliders, then serve and enjoy!
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
To reheat sliders: microwave each slider uncovered 15-20 seconds or just until the beef is heated through and cheese is melted.
For The Best Cheeseburger Sliders
- Stick with lean ground beef to help avoid excess liquid that will make the buns soggy.
- Drain the excess fat and liquid released from the beef before adding to the bottom half of the rolls so you don’t end up with soggy buns.
- Apply the sesame seeds as soon as you brush on the butter and they will stick better to the buns.
- Bake uncovered so the rolls don’t sweat and become soggy.
Can I make these sliders ahead of time?
Yes, you can make these sliders ahead of time. To prepare ahead of time, follow recipe instructions through step 5. Then cover and refrigerated until ready to bake. Remove from fridge, brush with butter, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake as directed. If baking from chilled, add an extra 2-3 minutes or until hot and the cheese is melted.
What’s the best type of ground beef to use for this recipe?
I personally prefer using a lean ground beef like 93/7 or 96/4 for these ground beef sliders. Using a leaner ground beef reducing the amount of excess liquid and fat and will help prevent the sweet hawaiian rolls from becoming soggy. If you chose to use a higher fat ground beef, just be sure to drain as well as possible before adding on top of the rolls.
Can I use a different type of roll besides King’s Hawaiian rolls?
Yes, you can use any type of small dinner roll here that you prefer. I love the sweetness of the rolls paired with the savory ground beef mixture but truly any type of slider rolls here will work.
