About This Recipe
We’re all about moderation over here and it’s no secret I love to enjoy a real snickers bar every one in a while. But for an every day treat, I wanted to find a healthier alternative that is made with better ingredients and is better for my blood sugar.
You might have seen these peanut butter filled dates as a viral trend on Tik Tok and for good reason. This recipe is made with sweet, chewy dates, creamy peanut butter, salty peanuts and rich chocolate. The combination of natural sugars, healthy fats and fiber make this an ideal snack that is great for an afternoon sweet treat, preworkout snack or after-lunch dessert.
Plus, this date snickers recipe is so easy to make. It only takes 10 minutes to prep and then just let them chill in the fridge for a few minutes (or you can enjoy right away). These dates store beautifully in the refrigerator or freezer so you can always have them on hand when you need to satisfy your sweet tooth.
You can also totally change up this easy recipe with any of your favorite flavors. Try almond butter, cashew butter, milk chocolate or your favorite kind of chocolate, add shredded coconut, protein powder or greek yogurt for extra protein, etc.

Why You’ll Love These Date Snickers
- Perfect for an after-lunch dessert, preworkout snack or simply satisfying your sweet tooth any time of day.
- Made with only 5 wholesome ingredients. 4.7 grams of fiber per serving.
- A healthier alternative to your favorite candy bar.
- Made with natural sugar and packed with fiber. Won’t make your blood-sugar spike!
- The perfect sweet + salty treat.
- Medjool dates – Use large, fresh dates. I love Medjool dates because of they are large, which makes them great for stuffing. Plus, they’re chewy and sweet and have a caramel-like flavor that helps give us the candy bar taste we are trying to achieve.
- Peanut butter – I used Jif creamy peanut butter. You can use creamy or crunchy peanut butter, whichever you prefer.
- Salted peanuts
- Dark chocolate chips
- Flake salt – for sprinkling on top if desired
- Use another nut butter. Almond butter and cashew butter would be a great alternative to peanut butter. You could even try sunflower seed butter if you have a nut allergy!
- Extra protein. Add your favorite protein powder or greek yogurt to your peanut butter to add extra protein to these stuffed dates.
- Shredded coconut. Add unsweetened shredded coconut for extra chewiness and flavor.
- Swap out the nuts. Try chopped almonds, pecans, walnuts, macadamia, or any other nut you like.
- Use milk chocolate. Use any type of chocolate variation you prefer. Milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate or even white chocolate.
How To Make
The full printable recipe is below, but let me walk you through the process so you know what to expect when you’re making it!
1. Line a small baking sheet (big enough to fit in your fridge) or plate with parchment paper. Use a sharp knife to cut a slit into each date along the long side, leaving one side attached. Remove the pit and set the open dates on the baking sheet.
2. Add 1/2 teaspoon peanut butter to each date. Smear on both sides of the inside of the date.
3. Then add about 1 teaspoon chopped peanuts to each date.
4. Close the date and stick a toothpick through the middle so it stays together. Leave enough room so you can hold the toothpick to dip. I love long toothpicks for this!
5. Add chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 70% power, in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted. Dip each date into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to help coat the date and allow any extra chocolate to drip off. Set the dates back on the baking sheet. Sprinkle remaining or extra chopped peanuts on top and flake sea salt if desired.
6. Place dates in the fridge until the chocolate has set, about 10-15 minutes. Then enjoy!
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. You can also store these treats in the freezer for 1-2 months.
Helpful Tip!
Use a piping bag or a zip-lock bag and cut a corner to easily fill dates with peanut butter!
Can I melt the chocolate using a double boiler method instead of the microwave?
You can also use a double boiler method to melt your chocolate if you prefer. Just place a heat-safe bowl over a saucepan and add chocolate chips. Turn heat on medium-low and stir chocolate until completely melted. This is a great way to try if you’re worried about burning the chocolate.
Are dates healthy?
Yes dates have a ton of health benefits! Dates contain natural sugar and fiber, which makes them low on the glycemic index scale. They are also naturally low in fat and packed with a ton of nutrients like potassium, copper, magnesium, vitamin B6, niacin, calcium, iron and vitamin K.
Can I make a single-serving of these date snickers?
Yes, you can easily make a single-serving version of this recipe if you need a quick sweet treat. Have a craving for Snickers and want to quickly satisfy it? Make a single stuffed date and enjoy immediately! Just use 1 date, 1/2 teaspoon of peanut butter, 1 teaspoon crushed peanuts and about 1 Tablespoon of melted chocolate.
