Why You’ll Love This Chicken Salad Wrap Recipe
- Quick & easy: This easy recipe comes together in under 20 minutes, perfect for busy weekdays!
- Great for meal prep: Make the chicken salad ahead of time for effortless lunches all week.
- Sweet & savory combo: Crisp apples, juicy grapes, and tender chicken balanced with nutty walnuts and a tangy, creamy dressing!
- Packed with protein: A satisfying and filling option with tons of flavor to fuel your day!
- Light but satisfying: The ultimate summer lunch that is full of fresh flavors and textures!

- Chicken: Make this recipe easier by buying pre-shredded or pulled rotisserie chicken from the store (I love Kirklands pulled chicken). You can also use my Basic Shredded Chicken or any other leftover cooked chicken you have on hand.
- Apple and grapes: For this chicken salad, I prefer to use a red sweet apple (like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala) and red grapes (since they’re sweeter). I really like the contrast of the sweet apple and grapes with the bite of the red onion and tangy lemon dressing but you can choose your favorite apple and type of grapes for this chicken salad!
- Red onion: The crisp red onion adds the perfect amount of bite to help balance out the sweetness from the apple and grapes.
- Light mayo: You can also use plain Greek yogurt or all cottage cheese.
- Cottage cheese: My favorite brand of cottage cheese is Good Culture but any cottage cheese will work. If your cottage cheese is liquidy, I like to stir it really well or drain it before adding it to the chicken salad.
- Walnuts: The walnuts help to add a little more crunch to the texture as well as healthy fats to this chicken salad. If you have a few extra minutes, you can throw your walnuts into a dry pan and toast for a few minutes to help really bring out the flavor!
- Dill weed: I love adding dill weed to add a bit of slightly sweet, fresh flavor. You can sub the dill weed for dried parsley or any other dried herb you prefer or just omit!
- Dijon mustard and lemon juice: The dijon mustard and lemon juice help to balance out all the flavors and create a tangy dressing for this chicken salad. I recommend using fresh lemon juice for the best taste. You can adjust the amount of lemon juice to your preference and if you need help balancing out the flavors, you can also add a little honey for sweetness.
- For serving: Tortillas (I used Olé Xtreme High Fiber), sharp cheddar cheese, mayo, mustard or other condiments of choice
- Make it nut free! You can totally omit the walnuts (or use a different nut) if you need to make this recipe nut-free.
- Don’t like cottage cheese? Easily swap the cottage cheese for nonfat greek yogurt or more mayo.
- Add-ins: You can swap the apple and grapes for any type of add-ins you like! Try strawberries, celery, bell peppers, etc.
- Tortilla wraps: You can use any type of wrap for these that you like! Use a whole wheat tortilla, low-carb tortilla, flour tortilla, gluten-free tortilla, high fiber tortilla, etc.
- Lettuce wraps: Want a low carb option? Skip the tortilla and wrap the chicken salad in crunchy lettuce leaves to make delicious low-carb, high-protein lettuce wraps!
How To Make
The full printable recipe is below, but let me walk you through the process so you know what to expect when you’re making it!

1. Roughly chop the chicken and toss in a large bowl. Add the apples, grapes, red onion, mayo, cottage cheese, lemon juice, dijon mustard, walnuts, salt, pepper and dill.

2. Mix until well combined. Add more salt and pepper to taste. If there’s a bite, sweeten it with a little honey.

3. Lay tortillas out. Spread a little mayo and mustard down the center, if desired.

4. Place cheese in a line down the center of the tortilla (if using sliced cheese, break it in half).

5. Spread about 1 cup chicken salad on top.

6. Fold the ends of the tortilla in then fold the wrap up. Repeat for all or make one at a time. Serve with a pickle and chips or your favorite lunchy sides and enjoy!
This chicken salad keeps great so it’s an awesome choice for meal prep. Store chicken salad in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
If you prefer, you can go ahead and assemble all the chicken wraps, wrap in tinfoil and store in an airtight container.
I prefer to store the chicken salad separately until ready to eat so the wrap doesn’t get soggy, but if you need to prep 1-2 days in advance, go for it!

What type of chicken should I use for this recipe?
Any cooked chicken works for this recipe! You can use a simple bulk chicken recipe, leftover chicken, seasoned chicken, store-bought rotisserie chicken or even canned chicken!
Can I prep these wraps in advance?
Yes, you can prep these delicious wraps in advance! I wouldn’t make them for more 1-2 days in advance so that the wrap doesn’t get soggy but you can easily throw your wrap together at night for the next day, no problem!
What kind of apple works best?
Any crisp, sweet apple like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work great. They add a sweet crunch that pairs well with the creamy chicken salad.
