Why You’ll Love This Apple Cider Margarita

  • Classic margarita… but make it FALL! Actually the ultimate hard cider.
  • Has all your favorite fall flavors! Perfectly sweet with just the right amount of spice.
  • Lightened up and lower in calories compared to a traditional margarita.
  • Simple ingredients and super easy to make!
  • Crowd-favorite – seriously everyone can get on board with this one.
  • Single serve or you can make a large batch pitcher!
  • Perfect Fall cocktail for all your fall get-together’s!! Football parties, Halloween parties, etc!

Ingredients and Substitutions

Ingredients for Apple Cider Margarita.
  • Tequila– I used a silver tequila (also called blanco tequila) for this recipe. But you can definitely use your favorite tequila or whatever you have on hand! Do keep in mind that flavor may vary some depending on your brand of tequila. Reposado tequila would be a delicious option to give this apple margarita a more spiced, richer taste.
  • Apple cider – You can get apple cider from most local grocery stores during the fall season. You could also make your own cider!
  • Lime – You will use both the lime and the juice here!
  • Sugar – we’ll use a little bit of turbinado sugar for the cinnamon sugar rim.
  • Agave– To add a little sweetness! You could also use maple syrup or simple syrup if you’d prefer.
  • Cinnamon stick- one of our optional special garnishes we’ll add at the end.
  • Star of anise – again, optional garnish but really makes the drink festive and fun!

Optional Variations and Dietary Adaptations

To make this drink non-alcoholic: substitute the tequila with some sparkling water, club soda, or ginger beer. You could also use alcohol-free tequila.

How To Make

  1. To make the cinnamon sugar mixture, combine the turbinado sugar and cinnamon on a small plate. You’ll want a flat plate for this. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and then dip edge of the glass in the mixture of sugar. Then fill your margarita glass with ice cubes and set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, apple cider, fresh lime juice and agave. Shake well. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, a large mason jar with a tight fitting lid would also work.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick, star anise, a lime slice, apple slices, or any warm spices/special garnishes of your choice and serve.

Tracking Alcohol Macros

To calculate macronutrients for alcohol, we just need to know ONE thing: how many calories it contains. From there, we can allot the number of calories to either carbs, fats, or a combination of the two. For example, if a drink has 100 calories you can track that as 25 grams of carbs, 11 grams of fats, or 13g carbs and 6g fats.

Also, when tracking as a combination of both, any ratio works. As in, you don’t have to allot 50% of the calories to fats and 50% of the calories to carbs. You could do 25% fats and 75% carbs if you wanted (3g fats and 19g carbs) if that fits your macros for the day better.

So, for this particular recipe, there are technically 16g of carbs in this drink, but as we know, we have to account for alcohol calories too (alcohol is the forth macro), so I went ahead and divided the total number of calories by 4 to account for all the macros in this drink.

Check out this blog post on more information on tracking alcohol macros.

FAQ: Apple Cider Margarita

Can I make this drink non-alcoholic?

Sure can! Just omit the tequila and replace with sparkling water, club soda, or ginger beer.

Can I use apple juice instead of apple cider?

They both have very different consistencies and flavor profiles so I wouldn’t recommend it. I definitely think it’s better with the apple cider but i’m sure apple juice would be fine in a crunch.

Can I make this drink into a pitcher?

Most definitely! Just be sure to give it a good stir every so often so that the spices don’t all settle at the bottom.
