Ingredients

  • 1 lb. turkey breakfast sausage
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour (28g)
  • 1/8 tsp dried sage
  • 2 cups whole milk (480g)
  • salt & fresh ground pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Add the sausage to a greased skillet and cook over medium heat, breaking into crumbles with a meat masher, until fully cooked. Sprinkle the flour and sage over top. Stir until all the meat is coated and you see no flour. Cook for 1-2 more minutes.
  • Gradually add one cup of milk while mixing everything thoroughly, then incorporate the second cup of milk. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.
  • Season generously with salt and fresh ground pepper (I added about 1/4 tsp each). Continue to stir frequently until thickened, then remove from heat.
  • Serve sausage gravy hot with biscuits, hash browns, whatever sounds good and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftover gravy in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat gravy in a small saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat. They gravy will thicken as it sits in the fridge so I like to add a little milk when reheating to get the right consistency.
You can also freeze this gravy. To freeze, let cool completely then store in a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. Let gravy thaw overnight in the fridge then reheat.
