These Macro Friendly Philly Cheesesteak Sliders are the best lightened up, macro friendly version of one of my favorite hearty subs and they pack a serious flavor punch. The beefy, cheesy mixture is pure heaven topped on a sweet and crispy Hawaiian roll that's slathered in delicious, garlicky butter!

Ingredients

Philly Cheesesteak mixture:

  • 1 lb. 96/4 lean ground beef
  • 1 green bell pepper finely diced
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion finely diced
  • 16- oz. sliced white mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup ketchup - I used sugar free
  • 1 Tbsp Montreal steak seasoning
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp each: garlic powder and salt

For the sliders:

  • 1 12-count package hawaiian rolls
  • 5 slices thick swiss cheese - I used Tillamook

Seasoned butter:

  • 2 Tbsp butter (30g) melted
  • 1.5 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a  9x13-inch dish with cooking spray.

Philly Cheesesteak Mixture:

  • Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking into pieces with a wooden spoon as you go. Once almost browned, add the diced bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms and cook for 4-5 minutes or until tender and wilted down, then remove from heat. At this point, drain any excess liquid from the skillet well. Then mix in all the seasonings (ketchup through salt).

Seasoned Butter:

  • Combine the seasoned butter ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.

Sliders:

  • Slice rolls lengthwise with a large serrated knife separating the tops from the bottoms. Place the layer of bottoms into the prepared baking dish. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the philly cheesesteak mixture on top of the bottoms. Top with the cheese slices (I cut my 5th one in half and lined them up with the rest and all 5 fit perfectly but use more if you need). Then close rolls with tops.
  • Brush the seasoned butter mixture over the tops of the rolls.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Then remove the foil and continue to bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly toasted.

Notes

To make gluten-free: Use gluten-free rolls and make sure Worcestershire sauce is gluten-free (varies by brand).
To make dairy-free: Use dairy-free cheese and dairy-free butter.
To store: Store leftover philly cheese steak sliders in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days. To reheat, place in the air fryer or oven until heated through and bun is crispy.
